ZineQuest Meet the Publisher: Bill Edmunds

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

Bill Edmunds is an author and cartographer, currently Kickstarting Inn to the Deep, a collection of four adventures spread across five booklets.

Question: Give us the elevator pitch for your project.

Answer: Inn To The Deep is a series of four Old School Essentials dungeon adventures spread across five booklets. The dungeons are all within a day's march from the Bog Inn, a ramshackle establishment that caters to adventurers and hirelings.

Q: If you've participated in ZineQuest before talk a little bit about your previous projects.

A: This is the third Zine Quest project I've run. The first was a zine called Black Dragon that was inspired by zines of the 1980s. The second was an RPG called The Bone Age, set on an arid planet where the characters are neolithic human descendants of spacefarers that crashed there thousands of years ago.

Q: What really excites you about your project?

A: There are several things that make Inn To The Deep unique. 1) The maps are all annotated with important aspects such as saving throws, damage from traps, and environmental elements. 2) The Bog Inn will develop as the PCs return there after their adventures, with employees coming and going, damage and renovations, new rumors, and new "help wanted" postings. 3) Most rooms in the dungeons have random elements guaranteeing that the adventures have high replayability value. For example, one room has a table for the GM to roll on that dictates what a guard is doing at the moment the PCs enter. Another randomly determines how long it will take some giant spiders to break through a barrier.
